Forum reorganisation, my PM to Pete:

Pete

I've had a rethink about the 'private' forums. It's becoming clear that in some respects they are counter-productive.

I noticed when PBI went 'private' that activity in the British section dropped off dramatically as the most active members posted out of sight of the rest of the forum users. Worse than that, it appeared to the outside world that PBI had disappeared! How can you recruit new members when they can't see what you do or what you are up to?

If you want to see what I mean log off the forum and you will see what guests and registered forum users see of Hohenstaufen - nothing!
Posts within the private forum shouldn't contain anything that wouldn't be appropriate for public areas, tactical posts should be in the Axis game area (not much point in Hohenstaufen working alone - the whole side needs to work together) and posts of a general Axis nature belong in the public Axis area.

Yith has seen the logic of this and the Brit section now looks great. The PBI section is set to viewable only by forum guests and registered users. They can see what is going on and may well be interested enough in asking to join the group or at the very least be more appreciative of what they are doing. And on a less quantifiable level will remove a 'them and us' feeling. Of course, organisational sections will remain private for obvious reasons.

David

Private Sections of ANY forum always cause a headache in the end. Have done on the kayaking forum I used to mod - the bitching became unbe-fukcking-lievable.

Re. Gadge:

Twat. And he didnt see how the Yanks operated at Husky (they did a good job of coming up through the woodland at the bottom of the site), so how the fuck can he make such sweeping statements?

I can honestly say I haven't been disappointed by any side I have been 1 or 2IC on, be it German, US or Brit!

What do people think about Yith deleting mine and Guy's posts on the Panzer Black thread?

So you know, I just posted:

Go American!

Bye.

This from Bedsnhearts on Josh's Road to Caen thread:

This is the week before the Operation Lightning event and is also over mothers day so will take a spot of ""finessing" all round.

And another PM from Gadge:

Steve

I find it staggering you pick me up on this yet see comments (joking aside) about bringing real rifles to shoot spiers with and general bad mouthing of US players dont seem to phase you....

I feel it also undermines a *private* forum for a mod/organiser to post a comment on when they are not a member themselves and theres no real reason to post. Sort of undermines the concept of the private discussion forum.

I'd like to hope that the PBI orgnaisers section isnt monitored...

Hmmm, don't respond to Gadge!

As for Yith deleting Guy's post - well FWIW I agree! It was heavy handed, in huge letters and block capitals, and was posted long after the thread had died anyway, so didn't add anything to the topic.

Heh! 'Spose.

Nah, I've replied to him as it was a little unfair that I only picked up on his post and not others. I think some of the talk about Spiers is a little out of order too. Say it if you like, but don't write it down FFS! Steve D's his mate!

Yith and Gadge ....???

how many pages on here have been aimed at how irritating they are, how argumentitive they are ...what a pain in the fuckin arse they are. Fuck.... even David bogged off for a week as a result of a few hours spent in their company .

...for what it's worth .....personally I think their powers of moderation and access should be trimmed quite severely . Yiths a cheeky twat to decide whats right and wrong about this forum IMHO... and Gadge ...well ....has his moments. Neither have any self contriol when it comes to crap thats close to their hearts ...or treading on our toes or anything frankly .

We binned them a year ago ...we have been happier ....time I suggest to trim their powers on here . If they get the pod and leave ...honestly do we really care now ..they cause more shit than they cure . Most of what they post just seems to irritate in greater or less degrees .

Not going to make a big point about this or force the issue ...but suspect I can speak for at least 2/4 on this thread.

A little bitch slap now might make them a little more cautious in the future. ..

I have to say I'm inclined to agree. Although, once again, I'm sure Dave with provide the voice of reason....

My concern is that their recent allegations of UKASC-ism would be borne true if we did do that and it would appear to outsiders that we were being a little elitist/egotist about things.

Looks like I don't have to be the voice of reason then Stephen!

Heh, I resolved my issues and I'm not letting G&Y spoil my little hobby. Like it or not this is a community forum and it takes all sorts. WW2's greater good is to include the likes of G&Y not exclude them, whether it's a personal wish or not. From a practical POV Yith is on the forum practically all day, every day and so is well place to be a moderator (and generally does the job well - he busies himself with deleting non-WW2 stuff from sales which is great, as I don't get the complaints!)

However, it doesn't affect what we do with CiA activities and how we run games and that is what is of most importance to me (and I suspect most people).

In the car on Saturday Guy spoke some well reasoned words along the lines of: our forum is a tiny niche within a tiny niche and therefore is bound to be over-represented by the extremes of the spectrum. Which I take to mean the ultra-nerdy, the mentally unstable, attention seekers, misfits and the bizarre. I'm not quite sure where the four of us fit in to the spectrum, best not to over-analyse!

Quite how the place hasn't spontaneously combusted I don't know but the 'all things to all men' approach seems to be working.

LOL

Well I'll content myself with a well aimed squirt of urine onto Yith favourite beret (complete with 120% authentic period plastic cap backing etc) at some point in the future .

Haha.

More than two years ago I had a run in with a marshal at Phoenix - he pissed off many players, caused some to leave even. He sent me a series of the most offensive emails I have ever seen in my life so I immediately sent them to Grogan. Clarky was chucked out after a culmination of events. Anyhoo, a few months later he was back (he went sobbing to Grogan for his job back - literally). Obviously I wasn't happy but hey. Come the Nov 5th firework party Clarky was drunk and passed out and was lying there out in the open air, mouth wide open, wearing his naff cheapo multicam BDUs. No one else was around. I was bursting for a pee. Can you guess what I did? I no longer have any angst over Clarky - I just have to think back to that night and I burst out laughing...
